The Objective
We were approached by photographer David “Billy” Bilbrough to develop an identity and website for his upcoming show on modernist architecture in the North East of England. His photography seeks to capture the original utopian visions of the architects — stripping away the clutter of the present while quietly embracing the entropy of age.
To highlight his unique way of seeing, we designed a mark that merged his initials with a diagram from a biology textbook showing how light enters the eye and projects onto the retina.
Billy was firmly against using any colour, but we convinced him to make one exception. A copper foil finish on his letterpressed business cards nodded to the beautifully worn Leica he carries everywhere — a small detail that tied his identity back to the tool of his craft.
